The power of Brand Modi was seriously underestimated by the media, opposition and others as the country was looking for a charismatic leader to lead them to a better future than selecting a specific party. People brought back NaMo into power by breaking the 2014 record.The elections also saw their fair share of anecdotes like a SoBo-ite friend of mine who stood in a long queue for over an hour, overhead a middle-aged lady saying, “I am voting for someone who will not ruin my Seaview anymore at Worli” or my maid telling me one fine morning, “apne bank account se 300 rupaya cut hoga agar vote nahiKiyatoh” to “a resort owner in Junnar (Maharashtra), who campaigned against non-voters by shooing away visitors saying ‘if you’re not inked, stay off my resort’. The election frenzy this year also saw the millennials cast their first votes. This younger& aware generation put forth their modern opinion which may have actually paved the way for the country’s future.And our own virtual friend-Google dedicated its Indian landing page with a Doodle created on each phase of election helping people out on simple ways to cast a vote!
More buzz got added to the frenzy when Supreme Court agreed to urgently hear a Congress petition that said the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) continued silence on complaints about hate speeches and misuse of the armed forces as political propaganda by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah. Whereas Twiterratis favourite personality Shashi Tharoor got court summons for ‘scorpion on a shivling’ comment about Modi. Before the elections both the major parties released their “Manifesto’s” The Congress manifesto, titled “Congress Will Deliver” was launched on April 2, the BJP manifesto titled “Sankalpit Bharat, Sashakt Bharat (Determined India, Empowered India) was released by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 8. A cursory glance of the two manifestos indicated that the Congress manifesto was majorly focused on economic reforms while the BJP has prioritized national security. Poverty alleviation, Startups & Entrepreneurship, Industrial Development, Terrorism, Farmers, Economic Roadmap and more alike churned to death topics find place in both their manifestos, but if and always when the winning party fails to fullfill the commitments made can the nation by large hold them guilty??
